The New World of 5G Broadcasting Futureproofing Television

WWOO-LD BOSTON FILES FOR EXPERIMENTAL BROADCAST LICENSE

On Friday, June 12th, WWOO-LD filed an application for an experimental 5G Broadcast license. It is the first in the US for LPTV.

LPTV power and height are better suited to 5G than are full power stations; the potential of SFN’s and the fact that collectively LPTV’s cover the nation.

In cooperation with XGen Networks and the magic created by Qualcomm, WWOO will deploy the Rohde Schwarz 5G broadcast chain in a real world test deployment.

Once the experimental license is granted and the test facility built out, we will have information to share.

XGen does have a smartphone in the US Broadcast UHF band to receive the signal as well as commercial receiver devices.

As a broadcaster, WWOO will air one programming stream and data stream. Software and app’s for smartphones, tablets, and commercial receivers have been or in the process of being developed.

First Responders will have another option in the “P.A.C.E.” initiative with a 5G broadcast that keeps delivering even when cell phone service fails. It also serves as a source of information for the general public when cell phone service is challenged by excessive use as 5G Broadcasting delivers in its own frequencies directly to the end user.

This is a brand new platform and will take time to answer the questions we all want answered. Its; the excitement of venturing into a new world of broadcasting.

WWOO and XGen Network are both proud members of the LPTV Broadcasters Association.
